Cortana: Now at W Department

W Department is very excited to announce the arrival of a new brand for the shop, Cortana, the Barcelona and Mallorca atelier founded by Rosa Esteva in 2001. Cortana’s vocabulary is consistent and unhurried: silk, linen, cotton, fine wool, woven at French and Italian mills; ivory and bone and stone neutrals; watercolor prints drawn by Esteva herself from the Mediterranean landscape she lives in. The clothes are made to outlast the occasion. Esteva trained in Fine Arts and Fashion Design in Barcelona and has spent the last twenty-five years building a quiet, deliberate house out of small ateliers in Catalonia, with home pieces produced in workshops on Mallorca.
Cortana counts Queen Letizia of Spain, Jessica Chastain, and Michelle Obama among its admirers. The brand has moved into the American slow-fashion conversation gradually, on its own terms, without a campaign.
With this arrival, W Department becomes the first and only physical stockist of Cortana in the interior Mountain West. There is no other Cortana in New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, Utah, or Texas. We pursued the brand because the Santa Fe light asks for linen the way few other places do, and because the customer who walks across the Plaza in July, on her way to a gallery opening or a wedding at the Cathedral or a long lunch on Canyon Road, has had to shop online for this register of clothing until now. She no longer does.
We are at 54½ Lincoln Avenue above the Plaza Café. We’re open every day from 11-5. Come by to see the collection, or just to say hi!
