A shirt is where panel construction is easiest to feel and hardest to see. A conventional shirt is drafted: the armhole is a curve, the sleeve head is a curve fitted into it, and the yoke exists to manage the difference between a flat piece of cloth and a round shoulder. A shirt built from squares does not have that problem because it never creates it. The sleeve comes off the body at an angle instead of being set into a hole, so the shoulder line falls where the cloth wants rather than where the body ends, and the whole garment moves from the shoulder rather than from the arm.
