A bolero stops above the waist, which means it does not cover the thing it goes over so much as frame the top of it. A single button at the front is the only closure, so the garment sits open below that point and the two front edges fall away. In pleated cloth, cut light, the whole piece is barely there: it adds a line across the shoulders and upper back and nothing else. That is useful in a way a longer layer is not, because it leaves the waist and hip of whatever is beneath completely visible.
Why we selected it
A very short open layer is a genuinely different tool from a long one, and this is a light and unfussy version of it.
Materials and construction
100% polyester, made in Japan. Light cardigan, single button closure, bolero-style silhouette.
Fit notes
Short, sitting above the waist, with a single button. Light and unstructured, so it follows the shoulder rather than holding a shape.
Care
Wash at 30°C or below in a laundry net on a short cycle, or press gently by hand, and never tumble dry, iron, steam, or dry clean. Store it rolled rather than hung. Our fabric care guide covers polyester and technical cloth.
