Nigel Cabourn British Army Pant

Green is the color that does the most work in a wardrobe built on military sources and the one that is hardest to place, because it sits between a neutral and a color and behaves like both depending on what is next to it. Against charcoal or gray it reads neutral. Against beige or ivory it reads as the color in the outfit. A plain cotton trouser in green is therefore a more flexible thing to own than the same trouser in navy, which only ever does one job. That is the honest case for this one, and the rest of what we could tell you about it is a conversation rather than a paragraph. Made in Japan.

Why we selected it

The plain military trouser is the piece that anchors everything else in this part of the house’s work, and it is worth having one that is properly made rather than one that merely looks the part.

British military dress is one of the deepest strands in Cabourn’s archive, and this is the trouser that comes out of it most directly.

Materials and construction

One hundred percent cotton. Made in Japan. Color: Green. We do not hold a cut, a rise, a pocket description, or a fastening for this trouser, and none is described above. Please ask us and someone will look at it with you.

Fit notes

Sizing runs 30, 32, and 36 on a waist scale. Cotton of an unstated weight will shrink once on a hot wash and then stop, so wash it cool from the start if you have chosen close.

Styling

With the British Officer’s Shirt in white, which is the most direct pairing in the house’s work, or the Fishermans Shirt. Under the Jeep Coat, which is the other green piece and close enough in tone to read as one decision.

Care
