Camiel Fortgens Track Jacket

The sleeve is the tell. A track jacket is normally cut close through the arm, because the shape comes from sportswear and sportswear does not want cloth flapping. Cutting the sleeve wide changes what the garment is: it stops being athletic and starts being a light jacket that happens to zip. The cloth supports that, at sixty-five percent viscose with polyamide and a little elastane, which gives it real drape rather than the dry bounce of a technical knit. Raw hems finish it, or rather decline to. Worn open over a tee it reads as a shirt jacket, and worn zipped it reads as exactly what it is called.

Why we selected it

Almost every zip-up we are shown is either a hoodie or a windbreaker. This is neither, and the wide sleeve is the reason it can be worn as a jacket rather than as sportswear.

The tracksuit is one of this house’s regular archetypes, and widening the sleeve is the smallest change it could make to it and still change everything.

Materials and construction

Sixty-five percent viscose, thirty percent polyamide, and five percent elastane, made in Portugal. Full zip, wide-cut sleeves, raw hems. Color: Sport Blue.

Fit notes

The wide sleeve means the jacket goes over a knit without pulling at the armhole, and it also means the cuff will not stay pushed up. Viscose has weight and no spring, so it hangs from the shoulder and stays where it hangs.

Styling

With the Trackpants, which share the same three fibers at the same percentages and the same Sport Blue, for the version that reads as a set. Over the Big Tee LS with the Normal Jeans. Under the Short Mac Coat.

Care

Viscose governs this cloth, and viscose is weakest when wet, so wash cool and briefly and dry flat rather than in a machine. Shrinkage in a regenerated cellulosic does not come back. Keep heat away from the elastane. Our care guidance covers the rest.
