Comme des Garçon Homme Elastic Waist Black Trouser

Most drawstring trousers give the game away at the waist, because an elasticated band gathers cloth and the gathers read as leisurewear from across a street. The way out of that is to taper hard below the hip, so the eye reads the leg rather than the waist, and that is what this one does. Four pockets, two front and two back, is a tailored pocket count rather than a sweatpant one, and polyester is the cloth that keeps the taper sharp: it holds a pressed line indefinitely and does not bag at the knee. The result is a trouser you put on the way you put on a sweatpant and wear the way you wear a trouser. Black, made in Japan.

Why we selected it

The pull-on trouser is now a permanent category and most of them are cut like nothing at all. This one has a taper and four real pockets, which is what makes it wearable outside the house.

Comme des Garçons Homme has been making the informal half of a wardrobe with the same seriousness as the formal half for a long time.

One hundred percent polyester. Tapered fit, drawstring waist, two side pockets and two back pockets. Made in Japan. Color: Black.

Fit notes

A drawstring waist means the waist is not the fitting point, so choose on the seat and the thigh. The taper is real and it narrows below the knee, so this sits close at the ankle whatever the size. Polyester does not relax across a day, which means the fit at hour one is the fit at hour twelve.

Styling

Under the Homme Black Snap Button Blazer, which is the pairing that makes the trouser read as tailoring. With the Homme Wool Jacket for the same effect at a different temperature. Or on its own with the Homme Heavy Weight Black Hoodie.

Care

Wash cool and dry away from heat. Polyester glazes under a hot iron and the shine is permanent, so press cool and through a cloth if you press it at all. Our care guidance covers the rest.
