Comme des Garçons Homme Nylon Trousers

A balloon trouser is a volume problem before it is anything else. Cut it in a cloth with body and it stands away from the leg in a shape the wearer has to negotiate all day; cut it in something with no substance and the volume collapses and reads as a mistake. Sixty percent cotton and forty percent nylon is a considered answer to that. The cotton supplies the hand and the matte surface, so the trouser does not read as technical wear, and the nylon supplies the resilience, so the leg holds its shape through the day and the cargo pockets do not drag the line down when they are carrying something. The result is a wide leg that moves when you move and settles when you stop, which is the only version of this shape that is genuinely wearable. Black, made in Japan.

Why we selected it

The wide trouser is easy to sell and hard to wear, and most of the ones we see are cut in a cloth that makes the volume look like an accident. This one is engineered for the shape rather than resized into it.

Comme des Garçons Homme has cut trousers with volume in them for long enough that this reads as house vocabulary rather than as a borrowed silhouette.

Fit notes

Cut wide through the thigh and the knee by design, so the size is chosen at the waist and the leg is the leg. A loaded cargo pocket changes the hang on that side, which is worth knowing on a trouser this full. The nylon in the blend means the leg recovers overnight rather than staying creased where it sat.

Styling

With the Homme Jersey Hoodie, which is the pairing that lets the volume be the only thing happening. Under the Homme Bomber Jacket, since a short jacket over a full leg is the proportion this shape is cut for. Not under a long coat.

Care

Cotton at sixty percent governs, so wash cool and keep it away from heat, which is what shrinks the cotton and what glazes the nylon. Air dry rather than tumbling. Our care guidance covers the rest.
