Ksenia Schnaider Platform Bag

Almost everything this house makes is soft, reworked, and shaped by whatever it was before. This is the opposite object: structured, built to a form, and standing on a base rather than resting on its own bottom. A platform lifts the body of a bag off the surface it is put down on, which sounds like a detail and is actually the difference between a bag that stays clean on a restaurant floor and one that does not. The material is polyurethane rather than leather, which is a decision and not a compromise. It takes a flat, even black that leather has to be finished heavily to achieve, it does not need feeding, and it does not mark in the rain. The zip runs across the top and there is one pocket inside, which is the correct number of pockets for a bag this size.

Why we selected it

We wanted one bag in this house that was not made of denim, and one hard-edged thing to set against everything else it does. A structured black bag is also the most useful object a wardrobe like this can have.

Ksenia Schnaider builds almost everything out of what already exists, and this bag is the piece that sits furthest from that, which is why it is worth seeing beside the rest.

One hundred percent polyurethane, made in Ukraine. Structured body on a platform base, zip-top closure, and one internal pocket. Color: Black.

Sizing and dimensions

We hold no measurements for this bag. What we can tell you is that it holds its shape whether it is full or empty, because the structure is in the body rather than in what you put in it, so the size you see is the size it always is. Please ask us and we will measure it with you.

Care

Polyurethane wants a damp cloth and nothing more: no conditioner, no leather cream, and no solvent, all of which will haze or lift the surface. Keep it out of prolonged direct sun, which is what ages a polyurethane coating fastest. Store it upright with something inside to hold the shape. Our care guidance covers the rest.
