A wrap closure is a genuinely different structure from a buttoned one, and the difference is not cosmetic. A buttoned coat closes at fixed points, which means the front is a series of anchored spots with fabric bridging between them, and it means the coat fits at the button line or it does not fit at all. A wrap has no fixed points. The front crosses the body and settles wherever the wearer settles it, so the coat adjusts to the layers underneath it instead of resisting them, and the resulting line is continuous rather than punctuated. What that costs is structure at the front, which is why the collar on this one is scaled up so far: an exaggerated collar puts weight and mass at the top of a coat that has deliberately given up its fastening, and it is the thing that keeps the wrap from reading as a dressing gown. The shell is one hundred percent wool. The lining is one hundred percent cupro, which is regenerated cellulose spun from cotton linter, the short fibers left on the seed after ginning. Cupro is smooth, cool to the hand, and it slides over a knitted sleeve in a way that a synthetic lining does not. The pockets are cut large. Made in the Netherlands, in black.
