Margaret Howell MHL Wide Leg Jogger

The jogger is defined by two things, an elasticated waist and an elasticated or tapered ankle, and only the first of them is any good. The taper is what makes a soft trouser read as sportswear, and it is why most joggers cannot leave the house. Cut wide instead, with the volume kept all the way to the hem, and the same garment reads as a trouser that happens to be comfortable. In a plain cotton rather than a fleeced jersey it goes further still, because the cloth is a trouser cloth and does not announce what the shape came from. MHL by Margaret Howell has kept the waistband and left the rest of the sportswear behind.
Why we selected it
It is the easiest thing in this line to put on and the one least likely to look like you gave up.
Materials and construction
One hundred percent cotton, made in Portugal. Relaxed fit, wide leg, jogger waistband. Color: Black.
Fit, styling, and care
Wide from the hip to the hem with the waist set on elastic. Lettered sizing. With the MHL Big Pocket Swing Shirt or the MHL Open Neck T-Shirt worn out, or under the MHL Cropped Bomber Jacket. Wash cool and hang to dry, and keep elastic away from high heat, which is what perishes a waistband long before the cloth goes. Our general care guidance covers the rest.

The MHL Painters Trouser is dry cotton gabardine cut on the painter’s pattern, and the MHL Slide Adjuster Trouser is mostly cotton with wool spun in, set at the waist by a buckle. MHL by Margaret Howell is a line of its own rather than a lighter version of the main one, and there is more on the house on the Margaret Howell designer page.
