Nigel Cabourn Railman Denim Pant

Railroad work trousers are one of the few garments that arrived at a final form early and then stopped changing, because everything about them was decided by what the job required: a straight leg that will not catch, a high enough rise to bend in, and pockets placed where a hand goes rather than where a pattern maker would put them. Cabourn's version sits in that tradition, cut from one hundred percent cotton, made in Japan, and in a light army green rather than the indigo the pattern usually arrives in. Against charcoal it reads as a neutral; against beige it reads as the color in the outfit.

The plain work trouser is the piece that gets worn until it fails and then replaced with the same thing, and we would rather stock one of those than something that has to be interesting.

Railroad and work clothing is one of the oldest strands in Cabourn's archive, and this is the trouser end of it.

One hundred percent cotton. Made in Japan. The color is a light army green. We do not hold a cut, a rise, a pocket description, or a fastening for this trouser, and none is described above. Please ask us and someone will look at it with you.

Sizing runs 30 through 36 on a waist scale. Cotton at an unstated weight will shrink once on a hot wash and then stop, so wash it cool from the start if you have chosen close. Beyond the waist we would be describing a cut we have not been given, so we have not.

With the Fisherman's Shirt or the British Officer's Shirt, both of which the green will sit under without argument. Under the French Work Jacket or the Fireman Jacket.
