The Crosscut is 3Sixteen’s shirt, and the reason is visible from behind: the back yoke is crossed rather than cut square, so the check runs at opposing angles across the shoulders and the pattern breaks where the seam does. Nothing about the garment’s function requires it. It is there because someone wanted it there, and it has been the house’s mark for roughly a decade.

In cream and black the drafting is louder than it is in a warm check, because a high-contrast pattern shows the angle change from across a street. If you want to see what the crossed yoke actually does, this is the colourway that tells you.

Why we selected it

We wanted one flannel in the store that could be worn for fifteen years, and this is the one that survived the comparison. Most shirts in this category are a plaid printed onto an adequate cloth. Here the cloth was designed first and the shirt second, and the details that cost money are the ones nobody sees on a hanger. We bought the check twice because the shirt was right, not because we needed a second reason.

Materials and construction

One hundred percent cotton flannel in a cream and black check, made in India. Crossed back yoke and crosscut detailing.

Fit notes

A shirt with enough body to work as a light overshirt, which is how most of our customers wear it. It layers cleanly under a jacket and sits comfortably over a tee. Cotton flannel of this weight softens considerably in the first months and then holds. Between sizes, and if you intend to wear it open, the larger is the more useful garment.

Styling and care

Cream and black is the colourway for a black wardrobe: over the black tee with black denim it does the whole job, and under the BDU Jacket it is the only pattern in the outfit. Machine wash cool, inside out, and hang to dry, because heat is what kills flannel and cream shows every kind of damage sooner than a brown check does. Our general care guidance covers the rest.

Related pieces

The same shirt in a warm check is the Crosscut Flannel in Coyote Slub Check. For something with a collar and no pattern, the Club Collar Shirt. It is worn with the CT-222xs and under the BDU Jacket. Everything we currently hold from 3Sixteen is listed together.
