Text on clothing is almost always either a logo or a slogan, and both are talking to the room rather than to the wearer. This is the third thing, which is much rarer: a phrase embroidered small, in a place where it will be noticed by someone standing close and by nobody else. “Up in the sky” is not selling anything and does not resolve into a joke or a brand. It is closer to the way a person might write something inside a book they own.
Why we selected it
Because it is quiet, and because embroidered text at this scale takes real work to do well on a lightweight cloth without the ground puckering around the stitch.
Ann Demeulemeester founded the label in 1985 and Stefano Gallici has designed it since 2023.
Materials and construction
One hundred percent polyamide, made in Italy, in black, with embroidery.
Fit notes
Sleeveless and close through the body. Polyamide has a little natural give and recovers well, so it holds its shape through a day.
Styling and care
Under the Agnes Jacket, or on its own with the Treze Bootcut Trousers. Nothing over the embroidery. Wash cool and inside out to protect the stitching, and do not press directly over it. Our care guidance covers synthetics.
