Porter is the bag line of Yoshida & Co., a Tokyo house founded in 1935 that has made everything in Japan since. The label dates from 1962, is named for the hotel porters who carried other people's luggage, and built its reputation on nylon. So this is a clothing house asking a bag maker to build the bag, which is the right way round. A removable strap is the detail that decides what this one is. With the strap on and let out, it is a shoulder bag; with the strap shortened it is a crossbody; with the strap off it is a hand-carried tote, and none of those is a compromised version of the others. That is a lot of range from one component, and the reason to choose it over three specific bags. The rest is straightforward and well judged. A buckle at the top closes it, which is slower than a zip and lasts longer than one. A patch pocket on the front takes the things you need without opening the bag. And nylon is the cloth that makes the whole proposition work, because it is light enough that an empty bag weighs nothing and hard-wearing enough that a loaded one does not sag at the seams. One hundred percent nylon, made in Japan, in black, navy, and khaki.
Sizing and dimensions
We do not hold measurements for this tote. What we can tell you is that it is made in one size, so there is no size decision to make. The strap adjusts and detaches, which means the carrying height is the adjustable dimension rather than the bag.
