A curved hem is a functional detail that has become a decorative one, and it is worth knowing which this is. The curve exists so a shirt stays tucked when the wearer bends, because a straight hem pulls out at the side seam first. Here the hem is curved and the logo is embroidered at the bottom, which means the identifying mark of the garment is placed exactly where tucking it would put it out of sight. That is a small joke and it is also a real choice: worn out, the shirt says who made it, and worn in, it does not. One hundred percent cotton, short sleeves, a chest pocket, made in Japan.
Why we selected it
We wanted a short-sleeved shirt that was not a polo and not a camp collar, and there are fewer of those than you would think. This one is a proper collared shirt with the sleeves cut off, which is the version that goes under a jacket.
Comme des Garçons Homme puts its marks where they are conditional on how the garment is worn, and this shirt is the plainest example of that in the line.
Materials and construction
One hundred percent cotton. Short sleeves, a chest pocket, a curved hem, and an embroidered logo at the bottom. Made in Japan. Colors: Black and White.
Fit notes
A curved hem is cut longer at the back than at the side, so this reads short at the hip and long at the spine when it is worn out. Cotton at full strength has no give across the chest, so the size is decided there.
Styling
Under the Homme Wool Jacket or the Homme Black Snap Button Blazer, worn tucked, which hides the embroidery. Over the Homme Fatigue Trousers, worn out, which does not.
Care
Wash cool and dry away from heat. Press the body, and press around the embroidery rather than over it, since a hot iron flattens a stitched logo permanently. Our care guidance covers the rest.
