Comme des Garçons Eyelet LS with Mesh Overlay

Both of the cloths in this shirt are mostly holes, and putting one over the other does not make it twice as transparent. It makes it less so, and more interesting. Two open structures laid over each other never line up, so the openings of the top layer sit across the solid parts of the one beneath and the eye reads interference rather than transparency. That is why an eyelet under a mesh overlay is a more coverable garment than either cloth alone, and why the surface keeps shifting as the two layers move independently against each other.

Why we selected it

Two sheer layers that add up to something less sheer is a genuinely useful trick, and this is the plainest execution of it we have seen.

The main line is unusually interested in what happens between two cloths rather than on the face of one, and this shirt is that idea with nothing else added to it.

Materials and construction

One hundred percent polyester. Made in Japan. Long-sleeved eyelet with a sheer mesh overlay. Color: black.

Fit notes

Two independent layers mean the shirt moves loosely and is not asking to be fitted. Size at the shoulder.

Styling

Over the Ruffle Chest Tank. With the Wide Pleated Trousers or the Wide Crop Trouser. Under the Sweater Vest Hoodie for a version where only the sleeves are visible.

Care

Wash cool and in a bag, since an open cloth catches on everything, and keep an iron away from it entirely. Hang to dry. Our care guidance covers the rest.
