Comme des Garçons Homme Peter Pan Collar Bomber Jacket

A Peter Pan collar is a flat, rounded collar with no stand, and it has spent most of a century on children’s clothes and on womenswear. Putting one on a men’s bomber jacket is the whole content of this garment, and it works because the bomber is such a fixed shape that a single change to it lands hard. Everything else stays where a bomber keeps it: the utility pocket on the left sleeve, and zip vents at the sides, which is a functional addition rather than a decorative one, since a zip vent lets a short jacket open at the hip when it is worn over volume. The cloth is seventy percent polyester and thirty percent wool, which keeps the collar’s flat round shape crisp rather than letting it soften and curl, and gives the body enough weight to hang. Why we selected it

We wanted the version of this house’s argument that could be worn to anything, and a black bomber with one collar changed is it. The joke is entirely legible and it is also entirely wearable.

Comme des Garçons has spent fifty years moving a single element of a known garment, and a Peter Pan collar on a bomber is that method applied to the most fixed shape in menswear.

Fit notes

A collar with no stand sits flat on the shoulders and shortens the apparent neck, which is worth knowing before trying it. The zip vents mean the hem can be released over a fuller trouser rather than gripping it. Polyester at seventy percent means the shape stays as cut and does not mold to the wearer.

Styling

Over the Homme Heavy Weight Black Hoodie, or over the Homme SS Button Up for the flattest version. With the Homme Elastic Waist Black Trouser, vents open.

Care

The wool at thirty percent decides this, not the polyester at seventy: have it cleaned rather than washed, and keep it out of heat, which sets the polyester and shrinks the wool. Press cool through a cloth if at all. Our care guidance covers the rest.
