Engineered Garments Fatigue Pant- Red

This is the fatigue pattern with its waistband solved twice. It has belt loops, which is the tailored answer, and it has an adjustable drawstring, which is the issued one, and having both means the trouser holds itself up in whatever way you feel like that morning. Most garments pick one and commit. Carrying both is redundant by design, and redundancy is what military patterns do: the drawstring is there so the trouser works when the belt is gone.
The hidden zip pocket on the left is the detail worth knowing about. A zip pocket set inside the front of a trouser is where the things you cannot lose go, and it is the one pocket on a garment like this that is not about carrying volume. Two patch pockets on the front handle the volume. In red, the whole pattern stops being military and becomes something else entirely, which is the trade this house makes on nearly every garment it produces.
Why we selected it
The fatigue pattern in a colour nobody issues it in is the most reliable thing this house does, and red is the least reasonable and most satisfying version of it.
Materials and construction
One hundred percent cotton, made in the USA. Zip fly with button closure, belt loops, and an adjustable drawstring at the waist. Two patch pockets at the front and a hidden zip pocket on the left. Colour: Red.
Fit notes
Cut on a fatigue pattern, so it is full through the leg and moves. The drawstring means the waist tolerates a range rather than a point, which makes this the more forgiving of the fatigue trousers in the line. Cotton relaxes across a day and recovers in the wash.
Styling
With the Work Shirt in natural, or the Polo Shirt in white, and nothing over either. Under the Bedford Jacket in black moleskin, where the red does the work and the jacket does not compete.
Care
Wash cool and hang to dry, and wash a saturated red alone the first time, because it will give up some colour early. Keep it out of strong sun while drying. Our cotton care guidance covers the rest.

The Natural Cotton Heavy Fatigue Pant is the quiet reading of this pattern and the Fatigue Pant in black the plain one. The Bedford Jacket in black moleskin settles a red trouser down, and the Work Shirt in natural does the same. There is more on the house on the Engineered Garments designer page. Everything we carry from Engineered Garments is listed together.
