Harris Wharf London Bell Sleeve Dress

A bell sleeve narrows through the upper arm and then opens from somewhere near the elbow, so the widest part of the garment is at the wrist, where a sleeve is usually tightest. That inversion is why the shape keeps returning: it draws the eye down the arm to the hand, it moves visibly when the arm moves, and it makes the shoulder look narrower by comparison. It also commits the dress to a single strong idea, which is a good trade when the color is as plain as indigo.

Fit notes

Because we cannot tell you the cloth, we cannot honestly tell you how the dress drapes, and drape is most of how a dress fits. What we can say is that a bell sleeve needs room to fall, so it will sit badly under a close-fitting coat sleeve and well under a wide one.

Styling

Indigo sits with almost anything, which is why it has been worn for four thousand years. A flat shoe, and nothing on the wrist, because the sleeve is already there.
