A trucker jacket is a specific and well-established set of proportions: short body, spread collar, button front, cut to sit at the waist. It is normally made in denim or canvas, cloths chosen for being hard and heavy, and the whole character of the garment comes from that stiffness relaxing over years of wear. Making one in a soft, light polyester engineered to feel like wool inverts it completely. You get the shape and the collar and the button front with none of the rigidity, so the jacket is comfortable immediately rather than after two years, and it drapes at the hem where a denim one would stand. Inner pockets are a small kindness a trucker does not usually have. Khaki keeps it in the workwear register the shape came from.
Why we selected it
A familiar shape rebuilt in an unfamiliar cloth is the most reliable way to make something worth owning, and this one is immediately comfortable in a way the original never is.
Homme Plissé regularly takes a standard menswear shape and remakes it in Issey Miyake‘s own cloth, and the trucker is one of the clearest examples.
Materials and construction
100% polyester, made in Japan, in khaki. A soft, subtle polyester engineered toward a wool-like hand, with a spread collar, button-down closures, and inner pockets.
Fit notes
Trucker proportions, sitting at the waist with a spread collar. The soft cloth means it drapes rather than standing away, so it reads less boxy than a denim trucker of the same cut.
Styling
Khaki and workwear-shaped, it goes over almost anything casual and, because it is soft rather than stiff, over a knit without bulk. It is a layer rather than a statement.
Care
Wash cool and keep heat away from it, as with any heat-set pleated cloth. Wash at 30°C or below in a laundry net on a short cycle, and never tumble dry, iron, steam, or dry clean. Store rolled rather than hung. Our fabric care guide covers polyester and technical cloth.
