Issey Miyake Pleats Please Basics Longsleeve Top

Every house needs a garment with nothing on it, and for Pleats Please this is it. A mock neck, a long sleeve, vertical pleats, a slim line, and no other decisions. What it demonstrates is that the pleating alone is enough to make a plain top interesting: the vertical fall catches light in narrow bands down the body, so a grey long-sleeved top has surface and movement that a jersey one could not have. It is the baseline against which everything else in the line is legible.

Why we selected it

It is the most useful thing in the line and the clearest demonstration of what the pleating does.

Materials and construction

100% polyester, made in Japan, in grey. Vertical pleats, mock neck, slim fit.

Fit notes

Slim, though pleated cloth always opens out more in wearing than the flat garment implies. The mock neck sits close to the throat.

Care

The pleats are heat-set into the polyester and are permanent, so it washes without losing them. Wash at 30°C or below in a laundry net on a short cycle, or press gently by hand, and never tumble dry, iron, steam, or dry clean. Store it rolled along the direction of the pleats.
