Kuon Twisted Sleeve Hoodie

A sleeve seam ordinarily runs from the underarm to the wrist in a straight line, hidden where nobody looks. Rotating it puts the seam somewhere visible and, more usefully, changes how the sleeve hangs, because the grain of the cloth is no longer aligned with the arm and the tube twists as it falls. It is one of the few alterations to a sleeve that is legible from every angle rather than only from one. The rest of the garment is left alone, which is the right decision: a hoodie carrying one structural idea is a hoodie, and a hoodie carrying three is a costume. We cannot tell you how far this sleeve is rotated or where the seam finishes, so what is written here is what a twisted sleeve is rather than what this one measures.

Why we selected it

One idea, executed on the most ordinary garment there is. That combination is much harder to find than it should be, and it is the one that gets worn.

One hundred percent cotton, made in Japan. Twisted sleeve construction. Color: Red.

Fit notes

We hold no cut description beyond the sleeve, so we are not going to characterize the body. A twisted sleeve generally shortens the effective reach a little, because a spiral takes a longer path than a straight line does, so it is worth checking the cuff on your own arm.

Styling and care

With the Hakama Trouser in black, where a red hoodie against a wide black wool is the whole point. Under the Stripe Patchwork Blazer. With the Fanage Corduroy Tapered Trousers, since olive and red are further apart than they look. For care, a strong red on cotton bleeds for the first several washes, so wash it separately and cold, inside out, and keep it out of a hot dryer, which is what turns a red chalky.
