Label Under Construction Crew Neck Arched Tee

This is the plainest garment the house makes and the plainness is the argument. A crew neck with a raw-cut hem and nothing else has one decision in it, which is the decision not to finish the bottom edge, and everything else about the shirt has to be right for that decision to read as intention rather than as an unfinished garment. A raw cut on jersey does not unravel the way a woven cloth does; it curls slightly and settles, so the hem becomes a soft edge rather than a hard line, and the shirt stops looking like a rectangle. The color does the rest. Green Bottle is the house’s own name for it, kept as the house writes it, and it is a deep saturated green of the kind that is normally reserved for knitwear rather than jersey. One hundred percent cotton.

Why we selected it

A plain tee is worth stocking only when somebody has thought about it, and the raw hem plus a color nobody else would put on a t-shirt is enough thinking. There is not much else here and we would rather say so.

Label Under Construction leaves its finishing visible rather than concealing it, and on this shirt the unfinished hem is the only place the house shows itself.

Fit notes

We do not hold measurements. A raw-cut jersey hem curls slightly and will sit a little shorter than the cut length once it has settled, which is normal and is not shrinkage. Cotton jersey relaxes with wearing and recovers with washing.

Styling

Under the Over Shirt in Sage, which is the pairing this shirt was most obviously bought for. With the Yoke Pockets Wide Jean, where the green is the only color in the outfit. On its own.

Care

Wash cool and inside out and dry away from direct heat. Leave the hem alone: it will curl and soften with washing, that is what a raw cut does, and it should not be trimmed, hemmed, or pressed flat. A saturated color on cotton gives up dye for the first few washes, so wash it separately at first. Our care guidance covers the rest.
