Lemaire Large Croissant Bag – Mink

The Croissant works because it is drawn rather than built. It is a single curve, tapering at both ends, and it sits along the body instead of hanging off it, which is why it reads as a line rather than as a volume. At this size the curve is at its most legible: a large Croissant is unmistakable across a room in a way the smaller ones are not, and it carries a day’s worth of things without losing the shape, because the taper does the work that a stiffened base does on a conventional bag. Coated cotton canvas is the right surface for it. The coating gives a low, even shine that reads the curve as a continuous highlight, and it is a hardier surface than a smooth leather would be at this scale. Mink is a warm grey-brown, which is the more interesting neutral choice: it sits with camel, olive, navy, and black without matching any of them.

Why we selected it

The Croissant is the object people come to this house for, and the large one is the version that works as a single daily bag rather than as an addition to an outfit. Mink gives it a warmth that black does not.

Materials and construction

Coated cotton canvas, made in Tunisia, in mink. Can be worn cross-body or on the shoulder. We do not hold a percentage composition for this piece, only the material description, so we describe the surface and not a fibre split.

Sizing and dimensions

We do not hold measurements. It is the largest of the Croissant bags and is scaled to carry a day’s contents rather than an evening’s, and the strap is arranged for cross-body or shoulder wear.

Styling

A curved bag against a straight silhouette is the whole point, so it does more against tailoring and straight-leg trousers than against anything already rounded. Mink over navy or olive is the pairing that shows the colour off; against black it recedes into a soft highlight.

Care

A coated surface is wiped, not washed. Use a barely damp soft cloth and dry it at once, keep it out of prolonged heat and direct sun, and do not treat it with a leather conditioner, which will sit on a coated finish as a film rather than being absorbed.
