Lemaire Medium Croissant Bag

The medium is the size that settles the argument. A large Croissant is a statement of shape and a mini is an ornament; the medium is the one that holds what a person actually carries and still keeps the curve clean. The construction is the interesting part: 80% cotton with 20% polyurethane, which is to say a cotton canvas with a polyurethane coating on it, and a cotton lining behind that. The coating is what gives the surface its shine and its resistance, and the cotton underneath is what keeps the bag light and lets it flex along the curve rather than creasing across it. One interior pocket, which is the correct number for a bag this shape. More pockets would mean more seams, and seams across a curve are what stop a curve reading as one line.

Why we selected it

It is the size we would use, and the coated cotton takes daily handling better than a soft leather bag of the same shape would. The single interior pocket is a good decision rather than an omission.

The Croissant is what Lemaire is best known for, and this is the middle of the three sizes.

Sizing and dimensions

We do not hold measurements. It is the middle size of the three Croissant bags and is scaled for the things a person carries daily rather than for a laptop.

Styling

Black with a shine reads dressier than a matte black bag and will carry from day into evening without looking like a day bag that came along. Against a wool coat the surface is what separates it from the cloth.

Care

A coated cotton surface is wiped with a barely damp cloth and dried at once, not soaked and not machine washed, and no leather conditioner should go near it: on a polyurethane coating it leaves a film that neither absorbs nor comes off.
