Mai-Gidah Drawstring Knitted Trousers with 2 Pockets
$891.00
Trousers are woven. That is not a rule, it is just what almost everyone does, because a woven cloth has a fixed structure and a knit does not, and a trouser has to survive being sat in, knelt in, and crossed at the knee without going out of shape at the seat. Knitting one is therefore a decision to solve a problem nobody has to take on. The pattern is knitted through the whole leg rather than run as a band at the hem, which means the structure is continuous and there is no join where the fabric changes behavior. The waist is drawn with a cord, which is the honest answer on a knit with no fixed band to hold against the hip. The cuffs are ribbed deep, which gathers the leg and gives the knit something to pull against at the bottom instead of dropping. The two pockets are slits rather than patches, because a patch pocket on a knit hangs. It is pure wool, which in a knit is what supplies the recovery: wool has crimp in the fiber, the crimp acts as a spring, and that spring is why a wool knit comes back after it has been stretched and a cotton one does not. The color is Caramel. Made in the Netherlands.
