A patch pocket is applied on top of a shirt front and has depth to it. A flat pocket is set so that it lies against the cloth with no gape and no standing edge, so it reads as a change in the surface rather than as an object attached to it. On a white short-sleeved shirt, where there is nothing else happening at all, that is the entire design. Plain white shirts are where a maker has nowhere to hide, and MHL by Margaret Howell has left the pocket, the collar, and the finish of the sleeve to carry this one.
Why we selected it
Everyone needs a white short-sleeved shirt and almost nobody enjoys buying one. This is the plain one done properly.
Materials and construction
One hundred percent cotton, made in Portugal. Short sleeve, flat chest pocket. Color: White.
Fit, styling, and care
Regular through the body with a short sleeve. Lettered sizing. Worn out over the MHL Painters Trouser or the MHL Wide Leg Jogger, or under the MHL Flap Pocket Blazer. Wash cool and dry in shade rather than direct sun, which sets a yellow into a white cotton rather than lifting one. Our general care guidance covers the rest.
