Nicholas Daley Wide Leg Cargo Pant – Navy

The composition is the story here, and it is worth reading. Fifty-eight percent cotton gives the cloth a natural hand and a matte surface. Thirty-eight percent polyamide, which is the nylon family, gives it tensile strength, abrasion resistance, and a fabric that dries quickly and refuses to crease. Four percent polyurethane is elastane in all but name and gives it recovery, so the trouser returns to shape rather than bagging. Put together, that is a technical cloth wearing the appearance of an ordinary one, and it is the most modern fabric he has used by a distance.

The cut around it is the same wide-leg cargo Daley showed for spring 2025, and the technical cloth serves it particularly well. The leg is wide enough that the cargo pocket lies flat as a panel rather than bulging. The waistband is elasticated with a cord inside it, so there is no fly and no closure to break the front. The hip pockets are curved and cut into the side seam. There is one patch pocket at the back and nothing on the other side. Because the cloth resists creasing, the trouser holds that clean geometry through a day in a way linen never could.

Why we selected it

We took this because it is the only genuinely technical garment Nicholas Daley makes and because it solves the practical version of the problem the linen pair solves aesthetically. It travels, it does not crease, and it looks like a designed trouser rather than like performance wear, which almost nothing in that category manages.

Technical cloth is rare in Nicholas Daley’s work, and this trouser is the clearest instance of it.

Materials and construction

Fifty-eight percent cotton, thirty-eight percent polyamide, and four percent polyurethane. Made in England. Elasticated waistband with an internal adjustable cord, curved front pockets, cargo pocket detailing at the side, one patch pocket at the back. Wide leg. Colour: Navy.

Fit notes

Cut wide from the top of the leg, with the waist adjusted by an internal cord rather than fixed by a closure, so the fit at the top has real range. The polyurethane content means the trouser recovers rather than stretching out at the knee and seat, so what it is on the first wearing is what it stays.

Styling

With the Hooded Pullover, where the technical cloths agree with each other. With the Waffle Crewneck in navy for the tonal version. Navy is the easiest thing in the spring collection to place.

Care

Wash cool and hang to dry, which it will do quickly. Heat is the risk rather than water: a hot dryer degrades polyurethane permanently and the trouser loses the recovery that is most of the reason to own it. Do not tumble dry and do not press hot, since a polyamide-rich cloth will glaze under an iron. Our fabric care guidance covers the rest.
