Paychi Guh Premium Cashmere Collar Cardigan

A cardigan with a collar is a different garment from a cardigan without one, and the difference is whether it can be the outermost thing you are wearing. A plain V-front cardigan has nothing at the neck, so it reads as an underlayer and looks unfinished with a coat off. A collar closes the neckline, gives the garment a front, and lets it stand in for a light jacket in a climate where a light jacket is what most days need. It also asks something of the yarn: a collar has to hold a fold, and a cashmere too soft to hold one will lie flat against the chest and look like a mistake. Premium cashmere here is plied to a weight that can carry it. The color is black, which on a cardigan is the version that will get worn to things rather than around the house. Why we selected it

We wanted one cashmere piece that could be the outer layer on a spring evening, and a collar is the whole difference between a cardigan that can do that and one that cannot.

Paychi Guh spins one fiber to several weights, and the cardigan is where the house needs the heaviest of them.

Fit notes

We do not hold measurements. A collared cardigan is sized to go over something, so choose for what you intend to wear under it rather than for your bare chest. The Worsted Cashmere L/S Crew is thin enough to go under it without changing the size you need. A plied cashmere keeps its length rather than growing.

Styling

Over the Worsted Cashmere L/S Crew in Black for a tonal pair of two different weights, or over the Pine Green if you want the cardigan to frame something. Over the Baby Cashmere Crew in Heather Oat. Worn open, since the collar is what the garment is for.

Care

Hand wash cool with a cashmere wash, press between towels, and dry flat. Fold it rather than hanging it, and do not hang it by the collar in particular, because the collar carries the whole weight of a cardigan on a hanger and it is the part that has to keep its shape.
