Paychi Guh Premium Cashmere Relaxed Turtleneck

A turtleneck lives or dies on whether the neck holds itself up. A collar knitted in a yarn too fine for it slumps within an hour and then sits in a ring around the throat, which is why so many soft turtlenecks are disappointing to wear and fine to look at. Premium cashmere here is a two-ply yarn, which means two spun strands twisted together rather than one used alone, and plying is what gives a yarn the body and the resilience to hold a shape. The house uses the same fiber at different weights across its line, so the distinction between one of its sweaters and another is often a plying decision rather than a different material. The cut is relaxed, which is the right pairing: a close body under a substantial neck reads as a costume, and a relaxed body lets the neck be the only structured thing in the garment. The color is Natural, the shade cashmere is before anybody dyes it. Made in Inner Mongolia, China.

Why we selected it

Most cashmere turtlenecks are too fine to work as turtlenecks. We wanted one plied heavily enough to stand up, and cut loosely enough that the weight does not read as bulk.

Paychi Guh works one fiber at several weights, and the turtleneck is where the heavier end of that range does something a lighter yarn cannot.

Fit notes

We do not hold measurements. Relaxed through the body, so it goes over a fine crew without pulling across the shoulder. A plied cashmere holds its own shape rather than following yours, which is the point of the neck and is also why this sweater will look the same in three years as it does now if it is folded rather than hung.

Styling

Natural is the shade that will go with anything already in a closet, which is its whole argument and also the reason it is the hardest one to keep clean.

Care

Hand wash cool with a cashmere wash, press between towels, and dry flat. Fold this one rather than hanging it, and fold the neck flat, because a turtleneck hung on a hanger takes the weight of the whole garment on the collar and the collar is the part you bought. Our care guidance covers the rest.
