Studio Nicholson Votan Shirt

It is a tank top, or a vest top as Studio Nicholson calls it, sleeveless under either name and scooped at the neck. Lyocell is a cellulosic fiber, spun from dissolved wood pulp in a closed-loop process, and what it gives a jersey is drape. It is heavier in the hand than cotton of the same weight, cooler on the skin, and it falls rather than holds. Knitted as a microrib, a rib fine enough to read as texture rather than as ribbing, it keeps a little structure at the neck and hem. Spearmint is a pale, cool green, and an unusual color to find in a plain jersey.

Why we selected it

A plain jersey top is the thing most people own too many bad versions of. This is a good one, and the color is why we took it rather than a fourth black.

Materials and construction

One hundred percent lyocell, knitted as a microrib jersey. Sleeveless, cut as a tank top, with a relaxed fit, a scooped neckline, and vented sides. Color: Spearmint.

Fit and styling

Relaxed rather than close, with vents at the side seams so it moves over a waistband instead of gripping it. Lyocell jersey lengthens a little as it is worn and comes back in the wash, which is the fiber and not a fault. With the Minos trouser, where spearmint against soft bone is the whole idea, or with the Sonny. Sleeveless means it goes under the Dash jacket when it cools without anything gathering at the arm, which is the layer a jersey with sleeves cannot be.

Care

Lyocell loses strength when it is wet, so wash it cool and gently, do not wring it, and dry it flat rather than on a hanger. Our general care guidance covers lyocell with the other regenerated cellulosics.
