Swampgod Cropped Patchwork Hoodie

Patchwork on a hooded sweatshirt is a structural decision before it is a visual one. A hoodie cut from a single cloth has its seams where the pattern needs them, at the shoulder, the side, and the sleeve; a patched hoodie has seams wherever the salvaged panels ran out, which means the garment’s construction lines are a record of what was available rather than of what was planned. That is the difference between a patchwork effect and actual patchwork, and it is the reason this one does not read as decoration. It is cropped, which puts the hem at the waist and makes the join lines more visible rather than less, since there is less cloth for them to disappear into. One hundred percent cotton, black, and made in Italy.

Why we selected it

We wanted the piece from this house that is most obviously made from something else, and this is it. The joins are the garment, not a finish applied to one.

Swampgod assembles rather than cuts, and a patched hoodie is the most direct statement of that method available in a familiar shape.

Fit notes

Cropped, so it sits at or near the waist and will show whatever is worn under it. A patched garment holds a shape slightly differently from a cut one, because the panels do not all run in the same direction and cotton behaves differently along the grain than across it. Because this house builds one piece at a time, panel placement and appearance vary from piece to piece. Please ask us.

Care

Wash cool and gently and dry flat, which matters more on a patched garment than on a cut one because every join is a place where two pieces of cloth can shrink at different rates. Never tumble dry it. Our care guidance covers the rest.
