Patchwork on a hooded sweatshirt is a structural decision before it is a visual one. A hoodie cut from a single cloth has its seams where the pattern needs them, at the shoulder, the side, and the sleeve; a patched hoodie has seams wherever the salvaged panels ran out, which means the garment's construction lines are a record of what was available rather than of what was planned. That is the difference between a patchwork effect and actual patchwork, and it is the reason this one does not read as decoration. It is cropped, which puts the hem at the waist and makes the join lines more visible rather than less, since there is less cloth for them to disappear into.
