Celeste is a color word doing real work. In Italian it is the pale blue of a clear sky, nearer to a tint than to a blue, and it behaves on cashmere the way pale colors do on any hair fiber: the halo of the yarn catches light, so the color reads slightly differently at every angle and never quite settles on one value. Sand is the opposite argument, a warm neutral that disappears into skin and into almost everything worn next to it. The garment under both is the same one: a hooded cashmere sweater with buttons at the collar. We cannot tell you whether they fasten anything, and we are not going to say they do. What can be said is that a button on a collar is a knitwear finish rather than a jersey one, and that it is the detail separating this from a sweatshirt with a hood on it.
