Comme De Garçons Homme LS Button-Up

The interesting thing about this shirt is where the pockets are. Inseam pockets at the waist mean an opening cut into the side seam rather than a patch applied to the front, so the shirt reads completely plain from the front and has somewhere to put your hands. That is a trouser detail moved onto a shirt, and it is the kind of small displacement this house has been making for fifty years. The rest is deliberately unremarkable: one hundred percent cotton, white, long sleeves, a button front, and the line’s name embroidered at the hem where a jacket would cover it. Made in Japan.

Why we selected it

A plain white shirt is worth carrying only if there is a reason to choose it over the last plain white shirt. The pockets are the reason.

Comme des Garçons Homme puts its detail where it will not be seen more often than it puts it where it will.

Fit notes

A side-seam pocket takes a little ease out of the waist when it is loaded, so this hangs cleanest untucked and with the pockets empty. Cotton at full strength has no give, which is why a shirt like this is chosen at the shoulder and lived with everywhere else.

Styling

Under the Homme Fleece Jacket or the Homme Wool Jacket. With the Homme Fatigue Trousers or the Homme Nylon Trousers. Untucked, given where the embroidery sits.

Care

Wash cool and dry away from heat, and press while slightly damp. White cotton yellows in storage if it goes away with any starch still in it. Our care guidance covers the rest.
