Comme des Garçons Homme Jersey Hoodie

The two things that separate a good hooded sweatshirt from a bad one are the weight of the knit and what happens at the pocket. This one is a heavy cotton jersey, which matters because a light jersey lets the hood collapse into a rag between the shoulder blades, and a heavy one keeps enough structure that the hood reads as a hood when it is down. The pocket has a snap closure, which is unusual and useful: an open kangaroo pocket sags as soon as anything goes in it and stays sagged. One hundred percent cotton, black, made in Japan.

Why we selected it

A hoodie is bought on weight and closed on details, and this one is right on both. The snap is the part we had not seen done well before.

This is Comme des Garçons Homme making a garment that is not about the house at all, which is a thing the line does regularly.

Fit notes

A heavy jersey has weight and drops from the shoulder rather than standing on it, so this hangs longer and closer than a light sweat of the same size. Cotton jersey shrinks in length before it shrinks in width, which is the argument for keeping it out of a dryer.

Styling

Under the Homme Bomber Jacket, which is the pairing the two garments were plainly made for. With the Homme Nylon Trousers for volume under volume, or with the Homme Fatigue Trousers for the flatter version.

Care

Wash cool, inside out, and dry away from heat, because heat is what shortens a cotton jersey and the shortening is permanent. Our care guidance covers the rest.
