Linen is the fiber that gives a skirt its line and silk is the fiber that makes it pleasant to wear, and at 87 to 13 this cloth is asking silk to do a specific and quite small job. It is not there for sheen and it is not there for drape. It is there so that a linen skirt does not feel like paper against the leg. What you get is a cloth with the structure of linen and none of its severity, cut as a clean A-line and striped vertically, so the stripe does the lengthening rather than the cut having to. The color is grey with a vison cast underneath it, which is what stops the grey going flat in daylight.
Why we selected it
A striped skirt is easy to buy badly, because most of them are printed rather than woven and the stripe sits on the surface. This one is in the weave.
Cortana would rather solve something in the cloth than in the seam, and a skirt that gets its line from a fiber ratio is the clearest example of that in the collection.
Materials and construction
Eighty-seven percent linen and thirteen percent silk, woven, with the stripe in the weave rather than printed on it. Clean A-line cut, stripe running vertically. Color: grey with vison undertones. We do not hold a country of origin for this piece.
Fit notes
An A-line skirt is forgiving through the hip by construction, and this one is cut clean rather than full, so it reads narrow while still moving. Linen relaxes across a day and comes back with washing, so a skirt that is precise in the morning and easy by evening is behaving correctly. The vertical stripe is doing real work on the silhouette and it is worth choosing your size for the waist rather than the hip.
Styling
With the Anele Top for the closest version, tucked, so that the stripe runs uninterrupted. With the Nora Cardigan over it when the linen alone is not enough. Flat shoes rather than a heel, since the line is already long.
Care
The silk governs this cloth even at thirteen percent, so treat the skirt as a silk garment rather than a linen one and keep it out of a machine. Press on the reverse while slightly damp to bring the stripe back. Our care guidance covers the rest.
