Ksenia Schnaider Denim Maxi Skirt with Ruffles

A long denim skirt has one problem: it is a column of stiff cloth and it can stop the wearer walking. A center cutout solves it, and this one solves it decoratively rather than practically, because the opening is ruffled rather than plain. So the skirt gets its movement from the same place it gets its detail, which is the sort of double duty that separates a considered garment from a decorated one. The fringe finishes the edges, the white keeps every one of those edges visible, and the length is full, which is what gives the cutout something to open.

Why we selected it

Maxi skirts in denim usually solve the walking problem with a slit at the back and hope nobody notices. Doing it at the front and making it the design is the braver answer.

Cutting into denim rather than adding to it is what this house is built on, and this skirt is where that is easiest to see from across a street.

One hundred percent cotton, made in Ukraine. Maxi length, with a ruffled center cutout and fringe detail. Color: White.

Fit notes

Fitted at the waist and full below it, so the waist is what to choose for. The center opening is what sets the stride, so it will feel generous or narrow depending on how the skirt sits on the hip rather than on the size alone. Denim has no give, so it does not accommodate.

Styling

Care

This is a washed denim and not a raw one, so there is no argument for leaving it unwashed. Wash it inside out, cool, and separately, and dry it out of direct sun, which is what yellows a white cotton. Do not bleach it. Our care guidance covers the rest.
