Kuon Fanage Cotton/Nylon Track Trousers

The waistband tells you what this trouser is for. Elastic and a drawstring together is belt and braces: the elastic holds it without any decision from the wearer, and the drawstring lets the waist be set deliberately on top of that, which is the arrangement you want on a garment you put on in a hotel room at six in the morning. Then the pockets, and they are not sportswear at all. Slant pockets at the side are ordinary, but flap pockets at the rear are a workwear detail, and a flap is there to keep contents in when the wearer bends over. Track trousers do not have those. Putting them on is the same crossing the cloth makes: the same cotton and nylon that Kuon cuts as a track jacket, in the same black, carrying a pocket layout borrowed from clothes people work in. The white stitched panels down the outside of both legs are the last piece of it, the track stripe again and again worked in thread rather than applied as tape.

Why we selected it

A trouser you can travel in that does not look like a travel trouser is a genuinely difficult thing to find, and the rear flap pockets are the detail that tips it.

Kuon cuts the same Fanage cotton/nylon as a jacket and as a trouser, and this is the trouser.

Materials and construction

Sixty percent cotton and forty percent nylon, made in Japan. Fanage cloth. Elastic and drawstring waist, side slant pockets, and rear flap pockets. White stitched detail panels down the side of both legs. Color: Black.

Fit notes

We hold no leg description for this trouser. An elastic and drawstring waist gives real range at the waist, so these are among the more forgiving things in the house to size, and a cotton-nylon at this ratio holds its shape rather than bagging at the knee.

Styling

With the Fanage Cotton/Nylon Track Jacket, which is the same cloth in the same black. With the Zip-Up Cotton Shirt, which is the version that stops it reading as sportswear entirely. Over anything, since the waist does the work.

Care

Nylon sets the ceiling and not the cotton. A hot iron glazes nylon permanently, so press low or not at all. Wash cool and hang to dry. Our care guidance covers nylon and technical cloth and the rest.
