Lemaire Twisted Belted Pant

The belt is the thing that separates this from the rest of the Twisted trousers, and it is a genuinely different proposition from a trouser you put your own belt on. A matching removable belt made in the same cloth means the waist can read as one continuous surface rather than as a garment interrupted by a band of leather, and taking it off changes the trouser rather than just loosening it. That is a real choice offered to the wearer, and it is why this one sits at regular fit rather than at a shaped one: the belt does the waist definition when it is on, so the cut does not have to. The cloth is garment dyed and snow washed, meaning it was dyed as a finished trouser and then tumbled to lift the colour unevenly, which is where heather comes from. Heather is not a pigment; it is the visual result of colour sitting at different depths across a surface, and on denim it produces a soft grey-toned mottle rather than a flat shade. The twist runs through the leg as it does across the line, so the seams wrap rather than dropping straight.

Why we selected it

A trouser that comes with its own belt in the same cloth is unusual and it changes the garment meaningfully when the belt comes off. The snow-washed heather is also about as soft as a denim colour gets.

This is the Twisted line with one addition, and the addition is the only thing separating it from its siblings.

100% cotton in a garment-dyed denim with a snow wash, with a matching removable belt. Made in Morocco, in heather.

Fit notes

Regular fit, so it is neither close nor wide, which makes the twist the only unconventional thing about the cut. The belt means the waist can be adjusted, which changes how much of the leg’s twist is visible. We do not hold measurements, and there is no Lemaire size chart on this site.

Styling

Heather is a soft mid-tone that reads as grey more than as blue, so it goes with black and cream more comfortably than an indigo denim does. Worn without the belt the trouser is much plainer, which is worth trying before deciding.

Care

Wash rarely, cold, and inside out, and dry away from direct sun, which will fade a snow wash unevenly. Take the belt off before washing, since a separate piece of the same cloth will move and abrade against the trouser in a machine. Our fabric care guide has a section on denim.
