Mai-Gidah Jogger Trousers

Weight is what separates a jersey trouser worth owning from one that is not. A light jersey has no opinion about where it sits, so it follows the leg and shows everything, and it goes out of shape at the knee within a month. A heavy one has enough substance to hang away from the body and enough structure to come back after it is sat in. This is the heavy kind, in one hundred percent cotton jersey, with an elastic waist and front pockets taken well past the size they need to be. Made in the Netherlands.

Why we selected it

We wanted one soft trouser that was not a compromise, and the weight is what makes this one work. The oversized pockets are the only place it announces itself.

Mai-Gidah exaggerates one element on almost every garment, and on the plainest trouser it makes it is the pockets.

Materials and construction

One hundred percent cotton jersey. Elastic waist, with large front pockets. Color: green. Made in the Netherlands.

Fit notes

An elastic waist takes a range, so choose on the hip rather than the waist. Heavyweight jersey hangs rather than clings and will soften with wearing without losing its weight. The pockets carry something without distorting the front, which is what the extra size buys.

Styling

Under the Textured Knitted Jumper. With the Bourbon Red Jacket, where a soft trouser under a tailored top half is the point. With the Zip-Through Hoodie for the all-soft version.

Care

Cotton jersey is straightforward: wash it cool, wash it inside out to keep the surface, and keep it out of a hot dryer, because heat is what shrinks a heavy jersey and shortens it at the leg. Our care guidance covers the rest.
