Rick Owens Basic SS T

Medium weight is the right choice for a tee and very few people make it. Light enough and the shirt clings and shows everything; heavy enough and it stands away from the body and reads as a garment rather than a layer. This sits in between, so it hangs from the shoulder without weight and holds its shape without stiffness. The hem and sleeve edges are cut raw, which removes the ridge that a turned hem puts at every opening and lets the shirt end without announcing it.

Just below the hip, which is the length that works untucked.

Why we selected it

It is the plain tee we wear and the one we hand people who want to start here. The weight is right, the length is right, and there is no third reason.

Materials and construction

One hundred percent cotton, made in Italy, in milk. Medium weight jersey with raw hems at the body and the sleeves. Sits just below the hip.

Fit notes

Just below the hip and not tight. Raw cotton edges curl slightly with wear, which is how they are meant to look. Medium weight jersey relaxes across a day and recovers with washing. Take your usual size.

Styling and care

With black trousers. Under either leather outershirt, where a milk body under black leather is the best version of it. Under the sleeveless turtleneck. For care, wash cool inside out and keep it out of a hot dryer. Our care guidance covers the rest.
