Rick Owens Boxer Swimmer – Dust

Most men’s swimwear is cut to one of two patterns and both of them are tight. This is neither: it is cut with real ease through the leg, in a light nylon with twenty-one percent elastane, so it drapes rather than gripping and moves closer to a short than to a swim brief. That is a small departure that changes what the garment is for, since a swim short that hangs properly can be worn away from the water without announcing itself.

Dust is the house’s pale grey-brown and it is the useful colour here. Swimwear in black is a default, and Dust is the version that looks considered.

Why we selected it

Our summers are long and our customers are not all twenty-five. A swim short with ease in it, from a house that is otherwise uncompromising, is a straightforwardly good thing to be able to offer.

Materials and construction

Seventy-nine percent nylon and twenty-one percent elastane. Made in Italy, in Dust. Relaxed fit.

Fit notes

Cut relaxed rather than close, so take your usual size; sizing up produces a short rather than a swim short. High elastane content means it holds its shape wet and dry.

Styling and care

With a plain tee and a sandal, which is most of a summer. Rinse in cold fresh water after every wear, since chlorine and salt both degrade elastane, and dry flat in the shade. Never wring, and never put it in a dryer. Our care guidance covers the general principles.
