A dropped crotch is one of the few proportions in menswear that people either understand immediately or never forgive. What it does is move the rise down so the trouser hangs from the hip rather than sitting at the waist and the fork, which lengthens the visual line of the torso and shortens the leg, then makes that shortened leg read as deliberate by cropping it.
That is a considered redistribution of the body rather than a stylistic tic, and it is one of the oldest things in this house's vocabulary. It also does something practical that gets overlooked: a trouser that hangs from the hip does not bind when you sit, which is why the cut has survived thirty years of people declaring it over.
The cloth is a plain cotton with three percent elastane, and it is deliberately ordinary, because a cut this distinctive does not want a fabric competing with it. Dust is the house's pale grey-brown, which reads as a neutral in daylight and as almost nothing at night, and it is a considerably more useful colour on a wide trouser than black.
