The Double is the construction, and doubling a jersey is what makes this an expensive tee to make. The jersey is doubled and the hem and the sleeve ends are left on the fold rather than turned and stitched, so there is no seam and no ridge at any opening. The doubled cloth has enough weight to fall away from the body instead of following it, and the folded openings hang soft where a hemmed edge would sit flat. On a long-sleeved shirt that matters more than on a short one, because there are twice as many openings for a hem to spoil.
Dust is the house’s greyed neutral, and after black it is the shade this designer returns to most often.
Why we selected it
We wanted the Double construction in a long sleeve and in something other than black. That is the whole reason and there is not a better one.
Materials and construction
One hundred percent organic cotton, made in Italy, in dust. Double-layered jersey with the hem and sleeve ends on the fold. Long sleeved.
Fit notes
The doubled cloth adds weight without adding structure, so it falls close rather than standing away, and it reads slightly longer than a single-layer tee of the same size. Cotton jersey relaxes across a day and returns with washing. Take your usual size.
Styling and care
With black trousers, where dust is the lighter of two neutrals. Under either leather jacket. Under the Peter Cardigan. For care, wash cool inside out and dry flat rather than hanging, since doubled jersey has the weight to lengthen on a hanger. Our care guidance covers cotton in more detail.
