Rick Owens F/W 25 Twist Dress

The twist is the entire garment. A single shoulder is gathered and turned on itself, and everything that happens below follows from that one operation: the cloth spirals slightly across the body, the drape falls diagonally, and a dress with no other detail acquires a direction. Take the twist out and this is a plain black tube.

Nylon with elastane is an unglamorous choice and the correct one for this shape. A twist puts real tension into the cloth at the shoulder, and a fabric without recovery would either distort permanently at that point or refuse to hold the turn. Stretch nylon does both jobs: it takes the twist, and it comes back. It is also considerably tougher than it looks, which matters on a dress you will pack.

This is from the Fall/Winter 2025 Concordians collection, the season built around the house’s own factory near Modena, and there is something appropriate about a dress whose only feature is a single well-made manipulation of cloth.

Why we selected it

We wanted a dress a customer could pack, wear, and not think about, at a level that is genuinely rare in a travel garment. Stretch nylon does not crease, does not need pressing, and does not care how it has been folded. The twist is what stops it being merely practical.

Materials and construction

Ninety-one percent nylon and nine percent elastane. Made in Italy, in Black. Midi length, single twisted shoulder.

Fit notes

A stretch dress fits over a range rather than to a size, and this one holds close to the body. The twist fixes the shoulder, so that is where the fit is decided. If you are between sizes the smaller is usually correct in a nylon-elastane, since the recovery is strong.

Styling

With a heel, or with a heavy boot for the harder version. Under a leather jacket or a long coat. Nothing at the neck, since the twist is the ornament and a necklace competes directly with it.

Care

Wash cool by hand and dry away from direct heat. Elastane is degraded by heat more than by anything else, so no hot water, no dryer, and no iron on this one. Our care guidance covers the general principles.
