Rick Owens Hoodie
$690.00
The difference between a good hoodie and a poor one is weight, and almost nothing else. A light jersey clings, creases, and follows whatever is under it. A heavy one has enough mass to fall away from the body and hold a fold, so an oversized cut reads as a shape rather than as an excess of fabric. This one is knitted heavy, cut large, and dropped below the hip, and it works because those three decisions agree with each other.
Dust is the colour, a warm grey-brown that behaves like a neutral and is more interesting than grey.
Why we selected it
A hoodie has to earn its place here, and this one earns it twice. The reasons are the weight of the jersey and the length, both of which are what people are actually buying when they buy a good sweatshirt, whether or not they would say so.
Materials and construction
One hundred percent cotton, made in Italy, in a heavyweight jersey. Colour: Dust. Pullover, oversized, falling below the hip.
Fit notes
Oversized by design and cut long, so the volume is intended. Heavy cotton jersey relaxes slightly with wear and returns with washing. It goes under most of the outerwear here, though not under close tailoring.
Styling and care
Under a bomber or a leather jacket, over a straight trouser. Machine wash cool, inside out, and dry low or hang, because heat is what shrinks a heavy jersey and dulls its colour. Our care guidance covers the rest.
