Rick Owens Long Wrap

The hem is the design. Front and back it falls just below the waist; down the sides it tapers, so the line around the body is a curve rather than a horizontal and the sweater opens at the hip instead of closing across it. That single decision changes how a loose knit sits: instead of ending in a straight band that reads as a stopping point, it trails away, and the eye follows the taper rather than the edge.

Cashmere is the right fibre for it because it drapes without spring, so the tapered sides fall naturally rather than standing out from the body. In a firmer wool the same pattern would flare.

Why we selected it

What you get here is a piece of the house’s actual thinking rather than plain cashmere with a name on it. The asymmetric hem is that thinking on a garment plain enough to wear every day, and it is what separates this from every other black sweater a person already owns.

Materials and construction

One hundred percent cashmere, made in Italy, in black. Loose fit, asymmetric hem sitting just below the waist at front and back and tapering down the sides.

Fit notes

Loose by design, so it hangs rather than fits and the size question is length rather than width. The hem is uneven on purpose and will not sit level. Cashmere relaxes across a day of wearing and recovers when folded and rested.

Styling

Over a straight or wide trouser, where the tapered hem has a clean vertical to read against. Under a coat rather than under a fitted jacket, since the volume needs somewhere to go.

Care

Fold it, never hang it. Hand wash cool with a gentle detergent, press the water out between towels, and dry flat away from sun and heat. Early pilling is normal and a cashmere comb deals with it. Our care guidance covers cashmere in detail.
