Rick Owens Minimal Boxer

The construction is a twist between two layers. The jersey is doubled and the layers are set against each other slightly out of true, so the cloth cannot lie flat and instead falls in a soft spiral around the leg. On a plain black short with side pockets and an elastic waist that is the entire design, and it is visible only in movement, which is either the whole appeal or the reason to buy something else.

Doubling also solves the practical problem with a jersey short, which is transparency and cling. Two layers of cotton jersey are opaque and have enough weight to hang rather than follow.

Why we selected it

It is a plain black short with one idea in it, and the idea is in the construction rather than on the surface. That is a fair summary of what we look for from this house.

Materials and construction

One hundred percent cotton jersey, made in Italy, in black. Double-layer jersey with a twisted construction, side pockets, and an elastic waist.

Fit notes

Elastic waist, so it accommodates a range and the drawstring is not doing the fitting. Doubled jersey has more weight than a single layer and hangs rather than clinging. Cotton relaxes across a day and recovers with washing. Take your usual size.

Styling and care

With a plain tee and a flat shoe. Under a long open shirt in summer. For care, wash cool inside out, keep it out of a hot dryer, and dry flat rather than hanging, since a doubled jersey carries enough weight to lengthen. Our care guidance covers cotton in more detail.
