Rick Owens Skorpio Tank

The straps are the design. On a conventional tank they run parallel from the neckline over the shoulder, which makes the top a rectangle with two verticals attached. Setting them on the diagonal and raising the neckline behind them puts the shoulder line out of true, so the garment reads as drawn rather than as cut, and the effect is visible from any angle including behind.

The hem does the same thing at the other end: dipped and rounded, left raw so there is no turned edge to make it look finished. Viscose and silk jersey, semi-sheer, hip length.

Styling and care

Under anything sheer, which is what the cloth is for. With a high-waisted trouser alone in summer. Under an open leather jacket. For care, hand wash cool, do not wring it, and dry flat, since viscose is weaker wet than dry. Our care guidance covers viscose in more detail.

A tank is the hardest thing to make interesting and this one manages it with two decisions and no decoration. The cloth is the second reason: viscose and silk does not read as underwear when it shows, which is what a tank of this kind has to get right.

Eighty-eight percent viscose and twelve percent silk, made in Italy, in forest. Hip length, with a raised neckline, diagonal straps, and a rounded dipped raw hem.

Hip length and close, following the body rather than holding away from it. The diagonal straps mean the fit at the shoulder is not symmetrical and is not meant to be. Viscose and silk has limited recovery and relaxes across a day. Take your usual size.
