A trucker is a pattern with a job. A short squared body that stops at the waist so it can go over anything without fighting it, and a front that buttons rather than zips so it can be worn open and still look finished. Savas keeps the pattern and changes its register, cutting it slightly tailored rather than roomy, which is the difference between a jacket that hangs off a shoulder and one that sits on it. The hide is the other decision, and it is the one you will notice in a year rather than on a hanger. A washed and oiled lamb takes on a wearer faster than a dry one: it moves at the flex points, it shifts where a hand goes and where an elbow bends, and what it ends up carrying is a map of how the jacket was used rather than how it was finished. Out of sight, it is put together the way workwear is rather than the way leather usually is: doubled rows of stitching at the seams, selvedge finishing inside, and a Bemberg lining. Black, and made in Italy.
